Helmet Head

Yup, it's true - we have a little helmet head over here. For those of you that don't know what the helmet (DOC band) is it's a band to help reshape Jaxson's head. He's got a pretty bad flat spot on the back of his head and on his forehead. Jody described it perfectly when she said a parallelogram. The technical terms for what he has is plagiocephaly and brachycephaly. So, Jaxson will wear the helmet for 3-4 months for 23 hrs a day. It comes off for bath time and so we can clean it. The first couple days were a little rough because he was like "what in the world is on my head?!" and he had some skin irritation, but that's all gone and he's now used to the helmet. The helmet does not put any pressure on his head at all, it just allows his head to shift to where there is the least amount of resistance. We've had the helmet for 3 weeks now and there's already been improvements so we're really happy about that. His ears are really misaligned too because of the flat spots, so this will help with that as well. Autumn did a great informative post on the doc band a few months ago, so you can check out her post if you want more info.

The worst part of the whole process is the casting. They put a pantyhose thing on his head and cut a little hole for his mouth and he has to sit completely still for 15 min while she puts plaster all over his head. Lots of fun people... lots of fun. (EXTREME sarcasm) That really is the worst part though. Before the casting, they had to take some pictures of his head and since he has so many curls, she needed to use some gel to get the curls flat. Well, her gel wasn't doing the trick so she had to get out the SUPER MAX HOLD gel. Hehe...

poor thing ... so much for my complaining on Silas' chest xray ... you win. Not a fun thing to win though.

also, you know the cuteness factor goes down a couple notches because of the Brewers decor right? :)

Such an ordeal for little Jaxson, I like the "gel" look on him, he looks like a little boy and not a baby in that picture.

What a little cutie he is. Bummer on the helmet, but hey, it is a pretty smart lookin one ! My girlie has a slight miss shape, but I think she was saved due to the fact almaz said she fought the bouncey seat and loved being up in the walker watchin what was goin on... i may have it looked at just to be sure. glad things are going so well for you guys !!
